moms passion really took flight after I left home and after my step dad died, and after she retired from teaching full time.
She was handicapped. She needed to get a motorized chair to get around in better. She mixed walking and riding. she could park the chair on the back of her Ford Taurus and walk to the driver side and drive. but all this movement was wearing her out quickly now.
The year was around 2000 when she joined Suncoast Community Church. Here she found friends and a purpose. There was a group of handicapped women there at this time. She and two others started a group called the handicapables. They met often to share laughs, trials and to pray. Moms passion also was to the missionary network of that church. She developed a pal system for writing missionaries and praying for them.
We all need friends that can fully identify with us; both physical and mentally without judging. We all need to see Jesus in our friends and be Jesus to others. It was 50 years since she broke her neck. The church family put on a huge celebration to the goodness of God in allowing her to live this long have a child and have five grandchildren. From her wheel chair she sang:
In the morning when I rise, give me Jesus,
you can have all this world give me Jesus,
when I am alone give me Jesus,
when I come to die give me Jesus
