daily post ; choose your adventure

Write a story or post with an open ending, and let your readers invent the conclusion.

I need an adventure right now. It would be on the Appalachian Trail with my buddies Don, Mike and Bob. We are all over 45 or so in age. Yet this means we will not go at a pace of a 30 year old.. But adventure on thr trail it would be.

Dons the most experienced Bob and i just have always wanted to “do the trail” I mean the whole trail. We’re going to do a long weekend soon. And this is how it will go……

Setting out in the am cars stationed at the finished line we start walking. Takes awail to get a good cadance and flow, but the deaper we get the rockier the trail becomes, untill there is not a flat spot just rock tops to walk on.

The pace is a bit slower than the through trail walker. they have an agenda, we just want an escape. Being a plant nerd i am always doing a hasty glance up from my footing to the near by growth. Looking at the map we found a spring up ahead about 6 miles we could filter some water and replenish. So we trudge on over some great view of valleys and cliff edges.

Getting to our spring of water we set up camp a few yards from the trail and away from the spring.  After a dinner gulped down of lentil soup we could catch our breath and stretch our very sore muscles.

The fire was glowing nicely and a few sips of whiskey down a silence crept on us as we listened to the fire crackle. Aroused from near slumber at the fire by a dragging noise off in the direction of the trail, we look at each other wide-eyed. Closer and closer.Ourfire waslow and we hoped no one could see it from the trail.  The brushing noise on the ground and rocks went past, whew we reached for more whiskey. Then our tents were welcomeed relief, the noise of thunder echoed in the mountain top.

Close to the dawn I thought I heard……… which left me frozen wide-eyed in place. Then a stirring near the fire and more……… The call followed by more
