sweet kate year after year

Tradescantia Sweet Kate.  Bright yellow foliage in the sun, Blue flowers in mid may into summer. This is aglow in my garden. A very low maintenance plant this plant can handle moist soils and even close to bog situations. my yard is average clay soil that is sloped and dry. I would give it high marks in diversity.

I feel the connection with the botanist John Tradescant, who had a whole genus named for him. The early 1600’s father and son, both botanists and both named john, developed gardens and explored many countries in asia and north america looking to collect plants for england gardens.

I’ve seen Tradescantia natives in the beautiful ditches of Iowa. It is a garden worthy plant. The color lends to a good contrast with most anything.

Sweet Kate – I love this plant! Have it in a pot on my deck, and it flowers year after year. I am excited every morning to see how many flowers I got, since they are gone in the evening.
