A fourth long ago

By july fourth, the annuals where pretty much winding down in sales. This is when the marigolds 6 inch pots and mixed geranium pots came in to their own. Ivy geranium baskets still where aound hoping for that need a Of the garden centers in DC, to fill spaces in their desplay.

The fall mums where in the field bulking up. Spoon fuls of osmicote fertilizer working their majic in the summer rain. These mums where hand sheared with grass clippers.
Btw…hand work and clay pots with wooden flats made my forarms and upper body something to be noticed by the girls in high school.

Soon the poinsettia cutting would come from California starting the summer stock build up of our main Christmas crop.

But the main event was hopping in grandads huge, seatbeltless, Chrysler Town and Country, heading up to kingville MD to a feild off Belair road to watch fireworks. When grandmom went I would get quite scared from her tails of children getting lost or trampled in the crowds. Hand holding never was released.

After the show Bergs icecream place was conveniently located on the rout home. Black raspberry for me please.
