Respect is earned!

She said, as I wanted to scream, ” no you respect an office, authority, older people, handicapped…..” Just because of the office or statice or condition. You don’t have to like, but you need to respect.

Am I wrong? On the streets of the hood, in gangs and in people surviving daily in a system built to kill, its apparently earned.

I took an employee once to a judicial hearing, he was flippant toward the judge, not addressing as your honor, and quite frankly I thought he wouldn’t be riding back with me,  at the same hearing as we waited, another fellow was hauled in and visually remorseful, and respectful.

The 20 something, pregnant young women, who lives with boy friends family, has it her way. No respect unless its earned by her standards.

How did society get this way? How do we respond?

In the work place its a bit easier, one can insist on particular behavior and team work. Go through the channels of disciplinary write ups and eventual dismissal.
A landlord can go through the long process of eviction when property is not respected.

How do we affect a large people group that values kindness as weakness and an opportunity for running over?

Any thoughts?
